Holy shit.

Let me know how much vacation time you have saved up -- maybe I'll take a bunch of you guys to Japan after all!

Fuck indeed.

I'd say that a great, big "FUCK" doesn't even begin to scratch the surface. I'd write it really big, in red, scrolley type letters if I knew how.

FUCK indeed.

I have no idea what to say, really...I think I'm about as much at a loss for words as you are :(

Damn. I pretty much second what Renee said.

As far as practical advice about this goes, find out the terms of the rest of your employment (ie, is there any normal, rational behavior which will make you lose your severance package?) and start looking for something else ASAP. Renew connections with Lifestyle and any other agencies that might be helpful. If you're like the rest of us, you were comfortable enough in your employment not to be looking, but if you have any other leads, follow up on those. Above all, take advantage of their offer of outplacement services, since they're the closest you have to a sure thing. Assuming you weren't an argumentative employee, the five years you spent at Sanford (or is it Eldon? Or Newell?) reflects well on you. Good luck with this, Jim.

Holy crap, I'm sorry to hear that. If there's anything at all I can do to make the next couple of months easier, like proofreading a resume or digging up dirt on a future employer or something, please don't hesitate to let me know. That sucks big-time. :\

I wish I could say something that hasn't been said already, but I don't think I can. It's so unfair that they can treat employees like that.

You'll find another job...a better job.

I know this isn't much, and I'm sorry there isn't more to tell you other than to hang in there. You've got a stong support network here and you're more than welcome to use it to it's fullest extent.

Day-um...definitely, whatever benefits they are offering to find a new job, use them! When I lost my job at Internet Express because of a buy-out, I was offered a choice of a commute from Madison to Baraboo, or a Letter of It's-Not-Your-Fault-ness. No severance, no job placement help, nothing. While this sucks bigtime, it could be sucking much worse.

Hang in there,

Shimatta
