10:20 pm: Offbeat, birthdays & other stuff
I just returned home from my first Offbeat performance in a few years. The significant lapse isn't a comment on the quality of their music (not by far) but more on the schedule that rarely if ever allows me the same free time as they. In fact, I wouldn't have been able to see them tonite if not for the vacation day I took from work.

The set list was good & my hidden dread of holiday music was unnecessary. There were songs I remember from the last time I heard them perform (Dock of the Bay, Higher & Higher, Steal my Kisses) & plenty new (Dentist, Since You've Been Gone, Lady Madonna, Mr Grinch.) Some songs I liked more than others but they were all done well. Everyone seemed to be quite jolly tonite & it was fun to watch them try to make each other laugh. Eric got Emily to giggle by singing in Ernie's voice during I Don't Want to Live on the Moon & got back at sacredspud's hot dog comment by throwing one into Lady Madonna.

I brought the Dad of Evil™ with me & was joined by pennylane_81 & laviorli a couple songs in. Indeed a splendid time was had by all.

In other news, I made leaps & bounds in progress toward completing the Evangelion REdeath soundtrack. I rearranged all the tracks & edited in appropriate dialog from the movie. I thought it was done last night but after listening to it throughout the day I feel it still needs some tweaking. Not much, but I think I can still improve upon some of the changes & additions I've made. Of course, it still needs matt_william's seal of approval before I'll consider it officially done since this started out as a joint project of ours. I'm still looking forward to the artwork he's come up with from the soundtrack. From the few hints he's given it sounds like it's très appropriate.

I'm sorry, I don't know why I spoke French just now.

Anyway, it's much easier to edit now that I have a version of the preferred sound editing program that actually works. I can finally get back to work on my own version of Orson Welles' War of the Worlds broadcasst. The easy parts were completed long ago but I'm still faced with an 18 minute continuous monologue to edit & add appropriate music (très appropriate!) It sounds like an odd thing to do in the first place but it works surprisingly well & I want to see this project to it's finish, even if it does take eight years.

I have a busy weekend coming up what with my dad's birthday & all. Tomorrow we're going to see the Whad' Ya Know show in the morning & make it up as we go along after that. I'll probably take him out to lunch & then he needs some help moving a junky TV out of the basement. Other than that I don't know. Hopefully I'll be able to get together with Matt after that to help celebrate...

Woo hoo! The last episode of Freakazoid has fially finished downloading!! It only took three damn weeks.

Um.. as I was saying, hopefully I'll be able to see Matt tomorrow to help him celebrate his birthday. If all goes well we'll get to try out his new retro Atari console & watch some Freakazoid. If the Atari is as good as it looks I'll have to get one for myself. I remember when they first came out; several of my friends had them but I didn't. v_v My parents just didn't understand the importance it would have had to my childhood.

Also in the works for this weekend is the family observation of my dad's b-day. Since Mom works on Saturday the three of us will go out to [shudder, *groan* eye-roll] Springers for dinner. Outside of all that I'll be tidying up the house to make sure I have enough room to get around on crutches & won't have to do any chores for at least a week. It's not like I'll be in traction the whole time but I don't want to have to go out of my way for anything if I can help it to avoid complicating my recovery. From all I've learned about this procedure I could have had it done on a Friday & been back to work as early as Monday but where's the fun in that? I'll take the extra medical leave thank you, & my boss would be the first to say not to take any risks. Especially since our facility reached 365 days accident free last week.

Yes, it was one year ago last week that Tim (our current shift lead but not back then) cut his finger seriously enough to constitute a recordable accident. It's been a long wait but one triumphant all the way. A lot of improvements have been made since and it's something the entire facility can be proud of. They're even having a little party to celebrate, presumably with free food for all & an extended break to consume it all. I've been looking forward to it for a long time, not so much the free food which is usually the case at work, but also to share in the recognition. So when will this celebration take place, we've been asking? Why, next Tuesday, the day after my surgery. The first day where it would really be a good idea not for me to be moving around too much. Oh well, if there are gift cards or something passed out I'll get mine the next time I'm in. Speaking of..

E V I L O U T -

P.S. I've done some research on that Wizards of Winter video that's been rampaging about the Net as of late. It turns out that they did not use stop-motion as I originally suspected (not even with pixelaiton,) but synchronized & filmed it all in real time. All courtesy of Carson Williams of Mason, Ohio. Glad you had fun seeing Colin's performance :) I wish I could have gone but I had to close the restaurant tonight (and work was boring anyway). Oh well...someday...then again, I don't know. Hope you have fun over the weekend and in the coming weeks as I probably won't see you much, if it all.
