12:50 am: Bacon scented cologne won't sell
This evening I had the pleasure of enduring the banquet for my five year anniversary at work. This took place at the Great Dane Pub & Brewery, tho' I should note it isn't the haunted one. This was my first event of this type & the highlight was being able to leave work after only two & three-quarter hours. -- The last such anniversary recognition I had took place during the morning meeting at (store's name omitted) where I was given a pin & sheet of card stock laser-jetted with a certificate of appreciation & signed by management. The former is long lost but the latter I kept, having written a story regarding Stock Man's origins on the back.

I know I invited those who read my journal to join me but I'm now relieved none of you were able to attend. Each manager had to give his own little congratulatory speech to everyone receiving an award & much of the meal itself was spent waiting for drinks. Two waitresses for fifty people slowed service down to a crawl. In short, the evening was long & boring & could have been better spent actually working. The food was good, however. Very good in fact. Good enough to say that alone made the trip worth it. But if I do go back, I'd much rather it be with one of you rather than all of my least favourite upper-level managers.

On another note, I will be getting back into origami very soon. The mother of a friend of mine has cancer & I wanted to send something to help her feel better. We've never met & she doesn't even know I exist but her daughter is a dear friend of mine & both have been going through a lot of stress because of this. I actually wouldn't have heard about the illness if not for a mutual friend so this gift will be more than face value. It's something the entire grapevine can enjoy.

Speaking of gifts, I have to get started on the SWE's annual delayed holiday gift. I know exactly what I want to do but I'm far out of practice to be confident in myself that the entire thing can be taken care of in a couple evenings. I really need a motivational enhancer for all the things I need to do within the next couple months to prepare for Thanksgiving at my place & the surgery next month. How will I ever get it all done & still get in my valuable video game time.

The world may never know.

- E V I L O U T -

P.S. Here's an interesting meme going around, tho' don't take the demanding tone too seriously. Now that I've posted it I suppose I should go & comment in the journals I originally found it in.
I want anyone and EVERYONE who reads this to post in here something they would like to do with me someday. Then post this in your journal to find out what people want to do with you.

Haha, I'm not telling...

Okay, truthfully...hmmm...it would probably involve watching something of interest (but not Red Dwarf or Monty Python...we could always finish Ren & Stimpy)...

This evening I had the pleasure of enduring the banquet for my five year anniversary at work.

Something about that makes me laugh. Actually, it's the contradictorily-worded phrase "pleasure of enduring," which strikes me as very clever. Douglas Adamsesque, maybe.

I've never been to the Great Dane, but we should check it out for a meal sometime. The smoking ban makes me a lot more open to eating at places like that. I've never had any sort of anniversary ceremony from an employer because I've never been somewhere long enough to hit the five-year mark (I'm working on it now, though). I think we get more vacation time and a laser-jetted certificate. I've always wondered why so many employers give those silly little anniversary gifts like the one you had to pick out a couple of weeks ago. It's not like anybody's sticking around in a crappy job just for the monogrammed pen. It's a nice gesture, but most people have a hard time choosing their gift, and then it gets stashed in a closet or something. You'd think they'd catch on to that.

Jim, will you show me how to fold a paper crane again? I used to do it all the time but I don't remember now. :)
